Second Minister of Defence-National Family Day Celebration Executive Committee Meeting

This year's National Family Day will focus on ways to improve awareness on the importance of love and affection among family members in order to generate happiness and harmony. According to the Second Minister of Defence, the duty and responsibility of instilling awareness among the leaders and other members of the family in this challenging era need the support of all levels of society, including government and non-government agencies. This is to ensure they will always be loving and caring towards each other.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Hj Mohd Yussof, as the Chairman of the National Family Day Celebration Executive Committee, stated this while chairing a meeting of the executive committee this morning.

Yang Berhormat Pehin added the National Family Day is a platform for consolidating efforts in 'the whole of nation" approach to deliver the message on the importance of family harmony. The Minister expressed hope that all parties such as ministries, government departments, the private sector, organisations, associations and other institutions, village leaders as well as grassroots leaders would continue to work together in spurring the celebration at the national, district, mukim and village levels.

Among other matters, the meeting discussed the format of the National Family Day's main event such as religious, community, sports and recreational activities which involve family members from all levels of society. Among those in attendance were Yang Berhormat Awang Ong Tiong Oh, Member of the Legislative Council, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Hambali, the Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Culture, Youth And Sports and the Ministry of Health, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The National Family Day celebration will take place on the 6th of May, carrying the theme, "Keluargaku Penyayang, Negara Gemilang".

Hand Over Of Housing Aid

Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in collaboration with the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Community Development Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, yesterday morning handed over a housing aid to a senior citizen in Kampung Sungai Matan.

The presentation of the housing aid, which was funded by Yayasan and the Community Development Department, to Awang Asbi Bin Mohd Yassin was officiated by Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf Bin Haji Metussin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism as member of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Board of Directors. The provision of housing aid to less-fortunate families in collaboration with the related agencies aimed to produce a spirit of cooperation that will collectively help to enhance the well-being of the country's people, which is in line with the objective of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah's establishment.

Awang Asbi's previous house in Kampong Sungai Matan, Jalan Kota Batu had collapsed. The senior citizen is a full-time fisherman, and his wife, 3 children and 2 family members are dependent on his monthly Senior Citizen's Pension. The Community Development Department with the cooperation of the Brunei Muara District Office handled the purchase and change of ownership of a house in kampong Sungai Matan that was contributed to Awang Asbi.

Talks from JAPEM


It is the start of a new and higher education life when the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) has welcomed 260 students as the new January intake this year. Several students and teachers of IBTE has attended the 3-day orientation at the Aviation Lecture Theatrre, IBTE Saiful Rizal Campus, Jln Berakas.

As one of IBTE’s welcoming events for the fresh instake of students, today, IBTE has invited a few government officers from government agencies to deliver their talk, including Community Development Department ( JAPEM).

From Community Development Departent, the talk was delivered by Awang Haji Khairul Ariffin bin Haji Abd Aji, Assistant Director of Public Relation, Human Resource and Volunteer Section. The institute has also invited other government officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Islamic Dakwah Center) and Ministry of Home Affairs (Narcotics Control Bureau) to deliver their talk.

The talk is aimed to instill general knowledge to the new students pursuing their higher education life. Today’s talk is based on moral values, social issues and drug abuse among current generation.

As a reminder, speakers during the talk urged the fresh intake to always instill good moral values, while remaining cautious when socialising and avoid bad influence from their peers, especially as we are now living at a digital and global age, frequently communicating in social media.
